Priority at NASA
The majority of launches operated by SpaceX will involve the deployment of the company’s own constellation of satellites, named Starlink. These miniature satellites bring high-speed Internet to the most remote areas of the world. The firm has already launched thousands of devices and thousands more have yet to leave Earth.
But Sandy Magnus, former NASA astronaut and member of the ASAP committee warns the two entities. “NASA and SpaceX need to ensure that the proper attention and priority is given to NASA missions, and that the right resources are brought to bear to keep that pace at a safe metric,” she says. The two firms work closely together on missions to the International Space Station using the Crew Dragon capsule.
