a year after its launch, the Dalma tribe ready to conquer Europe

This is the story of two entrepreneurs who want to get involved in a common passion, animals. Born from this collaboration: Dalma. If this name is evocative, it is no doubt thanks to the passage of Alban de Préville and Raphaël Sadaka, two of the three co-founders of Dalma, in the program “Who wants to be my partner? “. It was March 2021 and their pet insurance proposal had not been very successful. “Your show is incredible talent”, even retorted Jean-Pierre Nadir, one of the business angels. It must be said that he was not far from the truth because talent, the Dalma team seems to have it! Their offer was able to convince dog and cat owners and while they were only at the prologue of their story, the two enthusiasts saw their number of members explode with 20,000 insured customers and 6 million euros of turnover in just one year.

And if so many pet owners have decided to trust them, it’s because Dalma is for “to all those who want to take care of their dog or cat on a daily basis in a simple and fast way whether they are in town or in the countryside, assures Alban de Préville.

100% online, this mutual fund for animals has decided to play the game of transparency by describing all the possible scenarios of accidents and illness covered. An optional wellness package is also offered. Dalma thus promises up to 100% reimbursement of veterinary bills within 48 hours and support even on vacation abroad. The insurance also puts customers in contact, free of charge and in an unlimited manner, with experienced veterinarians. All for 22.99 euros, an “unbeatable” price. In May 2021, Alban de Préville already explained to Maddyness that only 6% of dogs and cats were insured in France and that “No one should ever have to choose between the health of their animal and that of their wallet”. One of the reasons that would explain the rate of abandonment of animals…

Dalma, soon animal-friendly insurance in Germany

This vision and this growth have thus made it possible to enlarge the Dalma tribe and a year later, here are the three founders at the head of a company of 35 employees. The team has not finished growing since 29 job offers are available on their website, and the startup has just raised 15 million euros in series A, via Project A and Anterra Capital. Historical investors Global Founders Capital, Frst and Kima Ventures are also participating in the round.

This fundraising will allow Dalma to write a new page in its history: the launch in 2022 of a super-application bringing together access to unlimited video calls with approved veterinarians, personalized content on health, nutrition , and animal behavior, but also an e-commerce platform for ordering everyday products.

An adventure will follow whose plot should take place, not in France, but abroad. Dalma wants to set off to conquer Europe. It is in Germany, where the animal population is said to be one of the highest in Europe, that the company would like to open a new chapter. Alban de Préville is convinced, it is the right destination to start outside France. The neighboring country counts “nearly 35 million domestic animals for 83.2 million inhabitants. The insurance penetration rate there is low – around 5% – while the growth rate in the market is strong: +20% per year”. Once German customers are won over by their experience, Dalma plans to expand in 2024 to Italy, Spain and Belgium. “Our ambition is to become a champion in these geographies, where the health insurance market is taking off. »
