Amazon gives a new name to Alexa: Ziggy

Amazon has released a new wake word for its Echo devices in the UK.

“Ziggy” is the fifth wake word option for Echo devices in addition to “Alexa”, “Amazon”, “Computer”, and “Echo”.

Customers can change their Echo device’s customers’ wake word through the Alexa app or the Settings screen on Echo Show devices, and all wake word options can be used with either male or female voice options. Alexa.

“We are constantly looking for ways to give our customers more options so they can personalize their Alexa experience,” said Dennis Stansbury, Alexa UK Country Manager for Amazon.

“The wake word is very important because Alexa devices are specifically designed to detect only the wake word chosen by the user. Our devices detect wake words by identifying acoustic patterns that match the wake word, so great care must be taken when selecting.

“We chose ‘Ziggy’ not only because it performed well in tests, but because it’s fun and reflects Alexa’s wealth of knowledge on everything from A to Z. Plus, I’m a avowed fan of David Bowie, so I like to say “Ziggy, play Ziggy” and “Ziggy, play the guitar” on my Echo device. »

The voice of ‘Ziggy’ was first revealed in July this year, when it was discovered that Amazon had added one more voice. male voice to its speakers.

Voices are not saved to a user’s account, but rather are associated with each individual Echo, meaning they will need to be edited at home.

The new keyword wasn’t explicitly associated with the new voice, but it happened at the same time. In the app, Amazon called the two different voices “Original” and “New.”
