Every day, since its opening on May 19, 2022, these are a fifty vans delivery men picking up the bags full of parcels at theAmazon agency of Moult-Chicheboville, near Caen, to deliver them throughout Calvados. Two waves are planned: one at 12:15 p.m., the other at 12:40 p.m.

“Very organized, especially in relation to security”

“We are very happy with this location,” adds Coralie Arruego, the mayor of Moult-Chicheboville. “The positive is the recruitment of jobs locally and the fact of not having any transport nuisances, because between 12 p.m. and 5 p.m., there is little traffic on this axis”.

At 12:15 p.m. sharp, in this month of July 2022, 40 white vans arrive at the same time. A polished and well-orchestrated ballet. “It’s very organized, framed, especially in relation to safety”, explains Emmanuel Virette, director of the company Maluso, which works with Amazon and has 25 vans, including 8 electric.

“Only 10 minutes to load”

Drivers wait until all vehicles are parked before getting out of the vehicle to pick up their route. “We only have 10 minutes to load,” says Jean-Michel, delivery man. His tour of the day is in Caen, Saint-Contest and Périers-sur-le-Dan. A hundred parcels to deliver, his day will last “between 8 and 9 am”.

In Caen, two out of three parcels delivered by electric car

In the city of Caen, two out of three packages are delivered by electric car, insists Amazon.

We are committed to the transition from thermal to electric. The objective is to reach 100% in Caen within 12 months.

The fleet of electric vehicles should increase from 8 to 12 cars “in the short term”. Currently, the Moult agency transports “about 20%” of its parcels by electric vehicles.
