Musk is having fun like a little madman on social networks … to the chagrin of some of his employees.
The Verge published the transcript of an open letter project in which SpaceX employees directly attack the antics of the sulphurous CEO, who regularly shines with very noticeable outbursts – especially on social networks.
According to the signatories, who claim to be a “wide spectrum of gender, ethnicity, seniority and functions”, the behavior of their most famous representative is a constant source of “distraction” and ‘”embarrassment” for SpaceX troops.
“As CEO and most influential spokesperson, Elon is seen as the face of SpaceX – every Tweet Elon sends is, de facto, a public statement by the company. It is crucial to clarify that its communication does not reflect our work, our mission, or our values.”, can we read in the letter.
A regular of rowdy statements
You have to admit that Elon Musk only very rarely bothers with reserve and prudence that traditionally condition the communication of great leaders. The billionaire regularly publishes these strictly humorous messages, sometimes with reflections that some observers readily qualify as childish.
We remember, for example, some not always very elegant tweets, like the one sent to Bill Gates last April. Musk had affixed an image of the emoji “pregnant man” next to a photo of the co-founder of Microsoft, with a caption that speaks for itself.

We can also cite its multiple offensives against its competitor Blue Origin, and in particular its reaction based on the same when SpaceX won the lawsuit which opposed it to the firm of Jeff Bezos during the famous “HLS affair”.

The authors of the letter therefore believe that SpaceX should “take a public stand and condemn Elon’s damaging behavior on Twitter”. The text also claims that SpaceX is not living up to its ambitions in terms of employee management. The interested parties are particularly critical of the zero tolerance policy with regard to sexual harassment, which according to them has not had the desired effects.
Several authors of the text fired on the field
This is not the first time that Elon Musk has been targeted by accusations of this type. But so far, that doesn’t seem to have bothered him too much; the billionaire apparently has a clear conscience and continues to actively fuel its troublemaker image.
And we can hardly expect it to change course in the near future. Remember that he is currently involved in the acquisition of the social network Twitter, which he intends to rebuild more or less in his image. In any case, for the authors of the text, the story apparently ended badly. This is in any case what emerges from the words of Gwyneth Shotwell, the president of SpaceX quoted by the New York Times.
In an email, she explained that SpaceX had “dismissed a number of employees involved“. “We have too much critical work to do, and no need for this kind of over-the-top activism“, she says. Not sure, therefore, that this letter will end up having the expected effects.
