The Nîmes prosecutor’s office has requested a dismissal in the Argan-Amazon case in Fournès and the sale of land, prosecutor Eric Maurel confirmed on Monday July 25. A complaint had been filed and addressed to the prosecutor by a resident of Fournès denouncing acts of favoritism during the sale of land. It was thus accused of elected officials of the town of having family ties with the sellers of land acquired by Argan or of having participated in the vote during the municipal council. In January 2021, the public prosecutor had opened a judicial investigation for facts of illegal taking of interests and the file had been transmitted to an investigating judge.
Also seized of the file of the project to set up the Amazon platform, the administrative court had canceled the environmental authorization in November 2021. But the court had also considered that “the participation of interested municipal councilors in certain deliberations adopted prior to the issuance of the building permit in dispute was not irregular since the interest evoked was not personal and distinct from that of the municipality.”
In December 2021, Amazon announced that its project in the town of Fournès was abandoned.
